If you come to Northern New Mexico, you can hike up into the mountains and see spirals just like this etched on rock faces—carved petroglyphs left by the ancient Anasazi Indians. This universal symbol can also be seen throughout nature: the whirls of our fingerprints, the arms of galaxies, the shapes of seashells and flowers. Did those ancient artists observe spirals in nature? Did they attach special meaning to the spiral, such as continual change, the evolution of the universe, the womb--as other cultures have? I certainly don’t know the answer, but it’s lovely to ponder while using this soap.
Why use this goat milk soap? Goat milk has a pH level very close to the skin's own pH, and contains many vitamins, proteins and minerals that nourish and rejuvenate the skin.
Honey and olive oil hydrate and soothe the skin, laying down a clear, protective film that helps the skin maintain its moisture while still allowing the skin to breathe.
Infusing the olive oil with organic calendula flowers gives the soap a healing quality: calendula is a powerful herb used to treat skin ailments from dryness and itching to rashes and burns.
These soaps have a strong lather thanks to the coconut oil, and will last a long time due to the beeswax and palm oil, which make a harder bar.
Because goat milk and olive oil, the two largest ingredients in my soap, are so mild and non-irritating, and are scented only with pure essential oils—I never use artificial or synthetic fragrances!—people with sensitive skin, including babies, can also enjoy them.
